BettingJobs is excited to partner with a growing business from South Africa who are expanding their offices into Europe and are on the cusp on attaining their MGA and UKGC licenses. They are currently seeking a Compliance & Legal Manager to join their team in Johannesburg.
The business is a B2C casino company with 6 brands, who are in the process of migrating from a white-label provider onto their own platform (developed in-house).
Responsibilities:
- Oversee licensing applications, renewals, and regulatory filings in key jurisdictions.
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust compliance policies and procedures across all brands.
- Monitor regulatory updates, assess their impact, and adapt operational practices accordingly.
- Ensure adherence to AML, KYC, and responsible gambling standards.
- Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify compliance gaps and implement corrective actions.
- Act as the primary point of contact with regulatory bodies and certification agencies.
- Train staff on compliance best practices, promoting a culture of integrity and accountability.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with vendors, affiliates, and other stakeholders.
- Provide legal guidance on regulatory obligations, including GDPR, data protection, and advertising standards.
- Manage disputes, litigation, or escalations in collaboration with external legal counsel.
- Support the migration process to the new platform by advising on legal risks and ensuring compliance during transition phases.
- Maintain corporate governance documents and oversee the legal health of the company.

- Collaborate with product, marketing, and operations teams to ensure compliance is integrated into all aspects of the business.
- Anticipate regulatory changes and proactively position the company for compliance.
- Contribute to shaping a proactive compliance and legal strategy that supports business objectives.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, or a related field. A legal qualification (e.g., LLB, JD) is preferred.
- 5+ years in compliance or legal roles, preferably within the online gambling or gaming sector.
- Strong knowledge of gambling regulations in key markets (e.g., MGA, UKGC, SGA).
- Experience managing platform migrations or significant operational transitions is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risk and make sound recommendations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
