BettingJobs CEO Jennifer Innes, Director John O’Neill alongside Iain Watson and Johnathan Revie-Singh from our recruitment team have now returned to our HQ following an excellent few days of networking in the beautiful Portuguese capital city during the inaugural SBC Lisbon conference.
Following the event, we caught up with the team to hear the lowdown and the insights gained during their time in Lisbon.
“The first SBC show in Lisbon was a great success from my perspective. I really appreciated the convenience of collecting my exhibitor badge at the airport. SBC’s provision of a €30 daily allowance for food, water, and other essentials during the show was a thoughtful touch. While there were some challenges with traffic and the weather (issues out-with SBC’s control) everything they personally managed was carried out to a very high standard. I was particularly impressed by the number of events and meetups for the Women in Gaming community, which were very well received. It’s clear we’re making real progress in this area, and it’s inspiring to witness the continued growth of talented women in the industry supporting one another.
A lot of the time, potential clients and candidates who visit our stand at conferences tend to ask if we focus solely on roles within the UK or Europe. This is a great opportunity for us to explain that both our candidate pool and client base is truly global. At BettingJobs, we offer positions across six continents, along with numerous fully remote roles. The same global reach applies to our client base – we’re proud to partner with a diverse range of companies, from start-ups to multinational entities, operating in locations such as Brazil, Malta, USA, Cyprus, UAE, The Netherlands, Peru, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Canada, Mexico, and The Philippines (to name a few).”– Jennifer Innes, CEO
“My first impression of SBC Lisbon was that it was a very well-organised event that attracted a dynamic group of iGaming leaders and professionals. The size and scale of the conference further highlighted the industry’s continued growth and demonstrated the critical role events like this play in forming established connections and exploring industry advancements.
A key takeaway from the event was the increased presence of crypto. I noticed a huge rise in the number of start-up crypto casinos and operators engaging with us during the event as they are eager to expand their teams and hire top talent.” – Iain Watson, Senior iGaming Recruitment Consultant
“As anticipated, a lot of discussions focused on Brazil following the recent announcement from the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) that companies can now apply for a federal license in the country. As a result, much of our clients are now seeking our help as they plan to expand into the region and hire top talent.
As Iain previously mentioned, another significant insight gained from the show is that many companies are now shifting their focus to the crypto space, aiming to capitalise on the expanding crypto casino and sportsbook markets. It will be interesting to analyse the continued growth in this area over the coming months.” – Jonathan Revie-Singh, iGaming Recruitment Consultant
“SBC always deliver exceptional events, and with Lisbon being one of my favourite European cities, it was a pleasure to attend their first conference there. Although there were a few minor teething issues (to be expected when a show relocates to a new city and venue), I’m confident these will be ironed out in time for next year’s event.
There was a top-tier lineup of content, with legendary keynote speakers such as Tony Hawk and Tim Berners-Lee delivering some very thought provoking and interesting panels.” – John O’Neill, Director
As always, we would like to say a huge thank you to our wonderful industry friends and clients, and to everyone who took the time to stop by our stand and speak with us during the event.
