Betting Jobs is currently looking for a Data Scientist/Quant Analyst for a sports betting company based in London. Focusing on football betting markets, the data science team helps to design, prototype, support and improve forecasting models that are amongst the best in the world.
A good understanding of sports betting is vital, and you’ll need to combine that with a flair for data discovery and analysis. You’ll be turning betting questions into mathematical problems, and trying to solve them. What data do you need to solve a problem, and which method should you use? The problems you will be working on are often complex, and the data is often imperfect. You should have no fear of working on problems with ambiguous answers.
You’ll also need programming skills to bring your ideas to fruition: these will range from small standalone analyses and visualizations to more complex models and prototypes. You do not need to be a software engineer, but experience working with production software is definitely a bonus: you’ll need to work closely with software engineers, write readable code, and help build shared tools that enable you and other data scientists get the most out of betting data. They are using Python for most things, although previous Python experience isn't essential.
• Excellent communication skills: in particular, strong written English and the ability to explain complicated ideas simply to non-experts is crucial
• Passion for football
• Strong grasp of probability and statistical inference
• Experience with statistical modelling or machine learning
• Programming experience: you should be comfortable designing, building and maintaining medium sized programs and prototypes
