Betting Jobs is currently looking for a Data Scientist to join the Data Science team of leading and growing data company in their London office. They provide in-depth analysis and data on football to betting companies, and build predictive models. This position would be the ideal opportunity for someone who is passionate about football and who has strong experience in an analytical position and programming languages.
A good understanding of football is vital, and you’ll need to combine that with a flair for data discovery and analysis. You’ll be turning football questions into mathematical problems, and trying to solve them. What data do you need to solve a problem, and which method should you use? The problems we wrestle with are often complex, and the data is often imperfect. You should have no fear of working on problems with ambiguous answers.
You’ll also need programming skills to bring your ideas to fruition: these will range from small standalone analyses and visualizations to more complex models and prototypes. You do not need to be a software engineer, but experience working with production software is definitely a bonus: you’ll need to write readable code, and help build shared tools that enable you and other data scientists get the most out of football data. We are using Python for most things, although previous Python experience isn't essential.
• Excellent communication skills: in particular, strong written English and the ability to explain complicated ideas simply to non-experts is crucial
• Passion for football
• Strong grasp of probability and statistical inference
• Experience with statistical learning methods, like regression models and classifiers
• Programming experience: you should be comfortable designing, building and maintaining medium sized programs and prototypes
