As an IT professional, the Data Engineering Lead will bring a strong mix of business process knowledge coupled with outstanding technology capabilities. The Data Engineering Lead will bring an understanding of the role that Data/Information Technology plays and how Data infrastructure and technologies can be architected and deployed to serve the business. This is a group-level position with a focus on global technologies and standards.

The Data Engineering Lead oversees global architecture, development and maintenance of Microsoft data and related services. Technologies include but not limited to:
• Microsoft Azure Data Lake Store
• Microsoft Azure Synapse
• Microsoft Azure SQL database
• Microsoft Azure Logic Apps
• Microsoft Azure Function Apps
• Microsoft Azure DevOps
• Microsoft Power BI
• Microsoft Office 365 Power Platform
• Microsoft SharePoint
• Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics
• Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB
• Microsoft Azure Event Hub/IoT Hub
• Databricks
• Microsoft Azure HDInsight

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain global standards and policies
• Provide standards and guidance to regional and mine sites for data analytics related projects
• Build relationships within the regional IT teams, key site personnel and partner teams to ensure services and productivity goals are understood and exceeded
• Lead group level data analytics technology projects to ensure data services are architected and implemented according to business requirements and industry best practices
• Oversee managed service providers to ensure proper level support is provided to the global business
• Provide incident management of group-level data technologies and provide guidance to regions and mine sites for incident management
• Interact and negotiate with vendors, managed services providers, and contractors to procure data analytics products and manage services
• Conduct research on products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the technology industry
• Continuously assess technologies for cost saving opportunities
• Maintain security centric mindset for all related technologies

Preferred skills and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering and/or equivalent work experience
• 10+ years’ experience developing data systems or similar complexity systems, including hands-on experience with architecting, and implementing solutions involving massive volumes of data, streaming data, relational and non-relational databases, orchestration frameworks, data warehousing, and CI/CD pipelines
• 2+ years’ experience with standard developer tooling (Microsoft Azure DevOps or Microsoft Team Foundation)
• 2+ years’ experience utilizing Agile project management methodology (including refinement, planning, release, and retrospective sessions)
• Vendor management expertise
• Strong sense of urgency, adaptability, flexibility, resourcefulness, strong problem solving and decision-making skills
• Demonstrated ability to manipulate, process, and identify value from large, disconnected datasets
• Expertise with ETL processes, data APIs, and data structuring
• Can establish enterprise-scale data integration procedures across the data development life cycle with in-depth knowledge of data engineering on cloud platform (direct integration, API based, ftp transfer)
• Understanding of data visualizations / business intelligence tools – Qlik Sense, Qlik View, PowerBI or similar
• Expertise with data cataloging, data taxonomy, data structuring, reference data management, metadata management, master data management, and securing data solutions
• Understanding of data sources, real world data assets, and their application, as well as future trends in this arena
• Strong understanding of analytical methodologies, techniques, and guidelines
• Advantage to have experience with deploying machine learning models into production environment
• Advantage to have experience with designing automated testing of data solutions, driven by metadata
• Understand and apply regulatory and compliance considerations to all data processing solutions, GDPR in particular
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication
