BettingJobs are currently seeking a Chief Data Officer for an innovative iGaming company in their San Jose, Costa Rica office.
The Chief Data Officer will lead the data strategy, transforming the way the organisation collects, manages and leverages data. You will be responsible for centralising data practices, modernising infrastructure, and fostering a data-driven culture across all teams.
Responsibilities:
- Data Centralisation & Modernisation: Lead the migration from legacy data systems to a unified, scalable infrastructure. Standardise data collection and integrate sources across the organisation to improve accessibility and real-time availability.
- Data Architecture & Infrastructure: Define and oversee the long-term vision for data systems aligned with the company’s tech strategy. Ensure platforms are secure, reliable, and built for growth, while promoting efficient data access and self-service analytics.
- Data Governance & Compliance: Own data governance across the company, setting clear standards and policies to maintain data quality, security, and compliance. Implement tools for data cataloguing, lineage, and access control.
- Business Intelligence & Data Insights: Enable the organisation to generate and act on meaningful insights through analytics, dashboards, and KPIs. Support the development of predictive models and ensure data-driven decision-making across all departments.
- Leadership & Team Development: Manage and grow a high-performing data team, fostering collaboration across departments. Provide guidance and mentorship to develop both technical expertise and strategic alignment within the data organisation.
- Cultural Transformation & Change Management: Promote a data-first mindset across the company. Encourage adoption of modern tools and methodologies, helping teams move away from outdated practices and confidently use data to inform their decisions.
- Strategic Collaboration & Influence: Partner with executive leadership to align data strategy with business objectives. Act as a key advocate for data at the leadership level, ensuring it plays a central role in driving innovation and growth.
Requirements:
- Proven experience leading the evolution of data ecosystems, including transitioning from legacy architectures to modern platforms (e.g., Lakehouse environments using technologies like Hadoop, Spark, and Airflow).
- Strong background in data architecture, engineering, and analytics, with the ability to operate at both strategic and technical levels.
- Demonstrated success implementing data governance frameworks, quality controls, and ensuring alignment with data privacy and security best practices.
- Skilled at building and leading cross-functional data teams—fostering collaboration, autonomy, and excellence across engineering, analytics, and data science functions.
- Experience leading cultural change initiatives, helping organisations move from fragmented or outdated data practices to scalable, modern solutions.
- Ability to deliver impactful data products, including real-time insights and self-service BI tools that empower teams and streamline access to information.
- Comfortable working alongside data science and product teams to incorporate machine learning into business operations and user experiences.
- Strong communicator who can connect technical and non-technical audiences, serving as a trusted partner to stakeholders across departments.
- Adaptable, curious, and driven by outcomes, motivated by delivering value rather than titles or hierarchy.
