How to Make Your CV Your “Winning Bet” in iGaming
5 mins read
In the fast-moving world of iGaming, your CV is your golden ticket to standing out.
Whether you’re stepping into your first iGaming role or seeking your next opportunity, getting your CV right is crucial. At BettingJobs, we understand exactly what employers across the iGaming landscape are looking for.
In this edition of BettingJobs News, our expert consultants share their top insights to help you craft a CV that truly sets you apart in today’s competitive market.
“Be clear, focused, and industry-specific,” advises Jennifer Innes, CEO.
“Clearly highlight the product categories you’ve worked on, the geographical markets you’ve worked in, and any other iGaming-specific experience such as working with companies that held licences like Curacao or UKGC, operating in fiat or crypto environments, and whether your employer was an operator or a supplier for example. Be especially clear about the specific business verticals you’ve been involved in, as this helps employers quickly understand where your expertise lies. It’s also a good idea to mention any documentation relevant to work eligibility, such as passports and any other relevant licenses you hold.
If you’ve experienced a redundancy, make that explicitly clear, especially if it resulted in a shorter tenure. This avoids any assumptions about performance or job-hopping and gives helpful context to hiring managers reviewing your timeline.
I’d also say it’s always worth taking another look at your CV to ensure it includes the right keywords for the role you’re applying for. While it’s helpful to keep a general “vanilla” version of your CV, spending just 10–15 minutes tailoring a copy to each position can make a big difference.
Where job titles may vary across companies and locations, consider adding a simplified or more universally recognised title alongside your official one to help hiring managers quickly understand your experience.”
“Sometimes less really is more,” mentions Iain Watson, Associate Director.
“A clean, streamlined layout that clearly highlights your responsibilities is far more effective than a cluttered CV. Hiring managers review dozens of applications daily and don’t have time to read every word, so yours should be easy to skim over and packed with relevant industry buzzwords, whilst focussing on the key details that matter.”
“Bullet points are key,” highlights Jonathan Revie-Singh , Senior Recruitment Consultant.
“Use succinct bullet points to highlight your most relevant achievements. Keep formatting clean, avoiding any fancy fonts or distracting visuals. Begin with a short introductory paragraph that outlines your current stage and professional objectives.”
“Double-check your contact details,” notes Carla Souter, Associate Director.
“You’d be surprised how many CVs we receive that include outdated numbers or incorrect emails. Always confirm your contact info is current and matches your LinkedIn profile as consistency builds trust between hiring managers and candidates.
And if you’re applying internationally or for remote opportunities, include your full country dialling code. These small touches make it easier for employers to reach out.”
“Let your experience speak for itself,” says Liam Deehan, Recruitment Consultant.
“Use reverse chronological format and include only a few bullet points under each role to summarise key responsibilities. Ensure your contact info is up-to-date and aim to steer clear of unprofessional or revealing photos.”
“Make it structured and readable,” adds Alex Barron, Recruitment Consultant.
“Emphasise job titles and employment dates with bold text. If you have worked on freelance or contract roles, make sure this is clear in the title line. Tailor each submission and consider adding a short interest’s section as it adds personality and helps build rapport.”
“Keep your CV targeted and to the point,” notes Scott McMillan, Associate Director.
“Make sure you include exact employment dates on your CV, not just the years. This gives recruiters a much better understanding of your timeline. Without precise dates, it can mistakenly look like you only stayed in a role briefly when you were actually there for much longer.”
“Let the numbers do the work,” says John O’Neill, Director at BettingJobs.
“When candidates can clearly show the commercial impact they’ve made through actual figures, KPIs, or targets, it can really help hiring managers quickly see the value the candidate could bring to the business.”
Jack Finniefrom our recruitment team also shares valuable advice for those new to the industry:
“In iGaming, especially for entry-level roles, it’s important to clearly demonstrate your passion for the industry. Whether it’s a strong personal interest in sports or poker, or even if you’ve built something like your own affiliate or tipster site or an online casino for fun, those details might not be relevant in other sectors, but in iGaming, they can really set you apart.”
By following the expert guidance above, you’ll be well-positioned to stand out in a competitive job market. Whether you’re entering the iGaming industry or looking to take the next step in your career, the BettingJobs team is here to support you.
